The Penny Story
Inspired by Penelope from Homer’s Odyssey, who wove her fate with wisdom and patience yet lacked financial control, we see parallels to women today. These challenges are timeless — but together, we can rewrite the future.
Our founder Lesley never planned to start a revolution in retirement planning. But when her aunt retired, she saw something she couldn’t ignore.
Her aunt — wise, patient, and fiercely independent — spent her life working hard, raising her family. But when retirement came, the numbers didn’t add up. Her pension barely covered her basic needs.
Lesley’s aunt wasn’t alone. Across the world, women retire with less — 40% less than men to be exact (you read that right). Lifetimes of career breaks, wage gaps and caregiving leaving gaping holes in pension contributions; and longer lifespans stretching already thin resources.
Lesley knew women deserved better. So she built Penny — a pension designed to give women the security, independence, and financial freedom they’ve always deserved.
